There has always been a sort of serendipitous magic around Choirz, not least of which were the circumstances surrounding its conception. Upon recalling the words of praise by his late father, Jed Corriveau reached out to his childhood friend whom he had not spoken to in over 20 years, Brandon Kennedy (Goat Horn, Zuku, Flying Fortress), to share the electronic track bounty he had composed in his home studio. At this time Kennedy, who himself was at a crossroads in life, not only saw these demos as innovative but also as a lifeline out of his chokehold of heartbreak. An organic collaboration took root instantly where Corriveau would send deft tracks and Kennedy would arrange them into soothing harmonies with melancholic lyrics. What initially began as an exercise in friendship and appeasement of the music gods soon birthed the first incarnation of Choirz.
After the video release for the first single Diamond Lover, another childhood friend who had moved home, Christopher Chartrand (Crystal Castles, Kill Cheerleader, Aciidz, Zuku), joined Choirz as drummer-aficionado. With Chartrand now firmly in the ranks, Choirz quickly blossomed into a live energy-filled performance band playing gigs around Ontario. A video release of the second single Mirrors was soon followed by the warmly received four-song EP Diamond Lover and a third single, Hold Your Heart.
